# Create a new policy import intent

POST https://test.api.kota.io/policy_import_intents
Content-Type: application/json

Initiates a policy import process for an employee with an existing policy created outside of Kota's systems. This endpoint allows importing policy details for an employee who has an existing policy with one of our existing providers.

Reference: https://docs.kota.io/api-reference/policy-import-intents/create-policy-import-intent

## Authentication

- `Authorization` header (bearer token, required) — Authorization header using the Bearer scheme

## Servers

- `https://test.api.kota.io` (test, default)
- `https://api.kota.io` (production)

## Request

### Headers

- `X-Platform-Id` (string, optional) — The target platform id. Required only when calling with a dashboard (WorkOS AuthKit) access token instead of a platform API key — the token carries no platform claim, so the caller must say which platform it means. Ignored for platform API key / embed session token callers.

### Body (application/json)

This endpoint expects a CreatePolicyImportIntentRequest.

- `employee_id` (string, required) — The employee ID for the policy import. Prefixed with `ee_`.
- `group_id` (string, required) — The group ID for the policy import. Prefixed with `g_`.
- `provider_policy_number` (string, required) — The provider's policy number.
- `member_number` (string, required) — The member number assigned by the provider.
- `policy_start_date` (date, required) — The start date of the policy.
- `policy_end_date` (date, optional, nullable) — The end date of the policy. Leave null if the policy has no end date.
- `associated_persons` (list of CreatePolicyImportIntentAssociatedPersonRequest, optional, nullable) — List of associated persons to be linked to this policy import.

## Response
